A short story of Er. Cheng:

Er. Cheng graduated from The University of Birmingham in United Kingdom with a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Electronic & Electrical Engineering in year 1998. Since young, Er. Cheng has a strong passion in Electrical Engineering. After his graduation, he developed a career plan that will pave his path towards being a Professional Engineer (Electrical). Throughout Er. Cheng’s career, he has opportunities to work in key sectors of the electrical power industry namely M&E consultancy sector, electrical contractor sector, Power Transmission & Distribution sector (SP PowerGrid Ltd) and Power Generation sector (PowerSeraya Ltd). With the diverse practical experiences and technical knowledges acquired, in year 2007, Er. Cheng has successfully obtained his Professional Engineer status registered under Professional Engineers Board, Singapore.

Apart from managing the day-to-day business planning & operation, Er. Cheng identify and develop training and learning plan and pathway for all his senior and junior technical & non-technical colleagues based on individual passion, interest & strength. Er. Cheng, being the mentor, he will ensure that the established training and learning plan for individual is met and fulfill on a timely basis. This will be beneficial to everyone as the training and learning plan is aligned with the individual growth and company directives.

Yirun holds a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and brings over a decade of extensive experience in the electrical industry. His career began with a focus on solar photovoltaics, where he played a pivotal role in pioneering significant projects in Singapore, including the nation’s first solar-leasing initiative and its inaugural Mega Watt scale PV project in 2013.

Under the mentorship of Er Cheng, Yirun evolved into a versatile engineer with a broad skill set spanning technical expertise, regulatory compliance, and specialized knowledge across diverse industries such as retail, hospitality, and data centers. His professional journey encompasses the design, planning, management, and commissioning of various electrical projects, from intricate 22kV switchgear and transformer replacements to comprehensive advisory services on metering schemes, contestability, and licensing requirements.

Yirun is recognized for his strategic insights in power restoration strategies aimed at cost-effectiveness and minimal downtime, as well as his proficiency in the maintenance of electrical switchgear including condition monitoring methods like infrared thermal scanning and partial discharge measurement.
