Er. Aqil Abdullah Cheng is the founder of I2R Consulting & Engineering Services Pte Ltd (I2R). I2R was single handedly established by Er. Cheng in year 2007. The journey is tough but with properly planning and strong determination of Er. Cheng, I2R has grown exponentially. Er. Cheng is the current Managing Director of I2R and under him is a strong teams of senior, middle and junior management comprises Professional Engineers, Licensed Electrical Workers, Engineers, Technical Officers, Human Resources Executives, Accounts Executives, Business Administration Executives and many more.

A short story of Er. Cheng:

Er. Cheng graduated from The University of Birmingham in United Kingdom with a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Electronic & Electrical Engineering in year 1998. Since young, Er. Cheng has a strong passion in Electrical Engineering. After his graduation, he developed a career plan that will pave his path towards being a Professional Engineer (Electrical). Throughout Er. Cheng’s career, he has opportunities to work in key sectors of the electrical power industry namely M&E consultancy sector, electrical contractor sector, Power Transmission & Distribution sector (SP PowerGrid Ltd) and Power Generation sector (PowerSeraya Ltd). With the diverse practical experiences and technical knowledges acquired, in year 2007, Er. Cheng has successfully obtained his Professional Engineer status registered under Professional Engineers Board, Singapore.

Er. Cheng believes in lifelong learning, he has acquired other professional status throughout his career as follows:

Apart from managing the day-to-day business planning & operation, Er. Cheng identify and develop training and learning plan and pathway for all his senior and junior technical & non-technical colleagues based on individual passion, interest & strength. Er. Cheng, being the mentor, he will ensure that the established training and learning plan for individual is met and fulfill on a timely basis. This will be beneficial to everyone as the training and learning plan is aligned with the individual growth and company directives.

For information, Er. Cheng is also an active member and registered mentor of The Institution of Engineering & Technology (United Kingdom) mentoring engineers who are targeted to be registered as Chartered Engineer in United Kingdom.

Yirun holds a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and brings over a decade of extensive experience in the electrical industry. His career began with a focus on solar photovoltaics, where he played a pivotal role in pioneering significant projects in Singapore, including the nation’s first solar-leasing initiative and its inaugural Mega Watt scale PV project in 2013.

Under the mentorship of Er Cheng, Yirun evolved into a versatile engineer with a broad skill set spanning technical expertise, regulatory compliance, and specialized knowledge across diverse industries such as retail, hospitality, and data centers. His professional journey encompasses the design, planning, management, and commissioning of various electrical projects, from intricate 22kV switchgear and transformer replacements to comprehensive advisory services on metering schemes, contestability, and licensing requirements.

Yirun is recognized for his strategic insights in power restoration strategies aimed at cost-effectiveness and minimal downtime, as well as his proficiency in the maintenance of electrical switchgear including condition monitoring methods like infrared thermal scanning and partial discharge measurement.

As a licensed Electrical Worker recognized by Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA), Yirun upholds rigorous industry standards and remains dedicated to delivering technical excellence and client-focused solutions.

With over 15 years of experience, Joyce Ng is an accomplished administrative, HR, and finance professional. She excels in fostering a seamless and productive work environment, aligning with business objectives, and enhancing financial performance. Joyce is expertise in managing daily office operations, coordinates schedules, and delivers top-notch administrative support to ensure efficiency. In human resources, she is proficient in recruitment, benefits administration, payroll, and employee relations, all of which contribute to a positive and productive workplace culture. Her financial acumen includes budgeting and forecasting, financial analysis, performance management, and overseeing complex financial systems, always ensuring regulatory compliance. Joyce’s comprehensive skill set and unwavering commitment make her an invaluable asset to the organization, driving success through effective management and strategic planning.

Yi Ming is a graduate of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) with a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. As an EMA Licensed Electrical Worker at I2R, he worked under the mentorship of Er Aqil Abdullah Cheng, gaining extensive experience in the design, installation, repair, maintenance, operation, inspection, and testing of low and high voltage electrical installations.

Early in his career, Yi Ming specialized in the design, installation, and testing of solar photovoltaic systems, successfully leading his team to commission over 30MWp of solar photovoltaic projects in Singapore. Recognized for his leadership qualities and exceptional teamwork, Yi Ming was appointed as a team leader, where he guided his team to achieve greater success. He was well regarded for his ability to demonstrate maturity and sound judgment, and his innovative and unconventional thinking has helped clients resolve practical issues efficiently.

Yi Ming’s strengths include:

• Designing electrical engineering systems and preparing proposals for electrical consultancy projects.
• Planning, managing, supervising, and leading teams in the preventive maintenance of electrical apparatus and switchgears.
• Conducting testing and commissioning of new electrical installations, apparatus, and switchgears.
• Responding to emergency call-outs, analyzing and troubleshooting faults in electrical installations, and developing solutions for rectification work.

Er Pang Yi Wen is an electrical engineer specializing in Power Systems Engineering. After graduating from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in 2017, he joined SP PowerGrid, Singapore’s electricity grid operator, which is ranked as one of the most reliable among major cities in the world.

Yi Wen honed his expertise in high voltage power systems through practical experience at SP PowerGrid. His hands-on involvement in the operation and maintenance of electrical apparatus up to 22kV has equipped him with a deep understanding of Singapore’s distribution network design. He also developed a keen interest in electrical testing and commissioning works, where he consistently strived to improve his knowledge. His enthusiastic spirit and pursuit of learning culminated in his attainment of his Professional Engineer certification and Electrical Worker License (LEW Grade 8) in 2022.

Yi Wen advanced his career as an EMA Licensed Electrical Worker at I2R. Under the guidance and support of Er Aqil Abdullah Cheng, Yi Wen has overseen a diverse portfolio of projects, including data centers, solar photovoltaic systems, electric vehicles, and retail malls in Singapore. He continues to reinforce and improve his knowledge and experience in the design, installation, operation, maintenance, testing, and commissioning of high and low voltage electrical installations in Singapore. Along with the cohesive team at I2R, he leverages his strong technical knowledge to carry out his responsibilities with excellence, delivering exceptional services to clients.

With a passion for electrical engineering, ER. Sebastian Neo began his journey by pursuing Electrical & Electronics Engineering at Nanyang Technological University. Graduating in 2017 with a Bachelor of Engineering degree specializing in Electrical & Power Engineering, he launched his career at SP PowerGrid. During his tenure, he managed the 22kV distribution network, gaining extensive expertise in network design and operations specific to Singapore. As a grid operator, he cultivated a profound understanding of power distribution systems and their associated responsibilities, establishing a solid foundation for his professional development.

Driven by a relentless pursuit of growth, Sebastian earned his Professional Engineer certification and became a Licensed Electrical Worker (Grade 8). These accomplishments underscore his dedication to excellence and his commitment to upholding the highest standards in the electrical engineering industry.
Beyond his technical prowess, Sebastian is deeply passionate about mentoring and sharing his knowledge with fellow engineers. To enhance his ability to educate effectively, he obtained an Advanced Certificate in Learning and Performance. This qualification has empowered him to bridge theoretical concepts with real-world applications, enabling him to deliver impactful training and mentorship within the industry.

Guided by the mentorship of ER. Cheng, Sebastian has taken on the challenge of leading a variety of complex and high-impact projects. These opportunities have allowed him to expand his expertise across the entire lifecycle of electrical systems—from design and installation to operation, maintenance, testing, and commissioning. His work spans both high and low-voltage electrical installations, consistently adhering to Singapore’s stringent standards and industry best practices.
