I2R, as a firm of Professional Engineers and Licensed Electrical Workers, is qualified under the Electricity Act to provide electrical consultancy services for all types of buildings and premises. Whether it is for new construction projects, Addition & Alteration Projects, or Fit-out Projects, we have the experience and expertise to provide such services to our clients. For any type of project, the sequence of consultancy remains largely the same and includes (but is not limited to) the following:
One of the core strengths of I2R Consulting & Engineering Services Pte Ltd (I2R) is the ability to provide comprehensive maintenance and testing for all types of HT and LV electrical apparatus. The group of specialized staff, comprising HT & LT Testing LEWs, testers, and technical officers, are equipped with the latest testing equipment and tools that allow I2R to fulfill the needs of our clients in compliance with local and IEC standards, as well as Energy Market Authority (EMA) licensing requirements. Comprehensive reports covering all test results, findings, and recommendations will be provided for each maintenance service.
Through the use of IT technologies, I2R is able to trend, record, and monitor all maintenance works done for each of our clients. This provides convenience to our clients, as they will not need to worry about missing any maintenance reports or monitoring the next maintenance cycle for their electrical apparatus.
Power shutdown maintenance is a major event for any type of building. A power shutdown event involves good planning, establishing a power shutdown sequence, and identifying affected areas. With many years of I2R’s experience in maintaining electrical apparatus, I2R is able to establish a comprehensive maintenance sequence to guide all our clients. This includes the establishment of condition monitoring works, power interruption plans, manpower allocation plans, and a sequence of electrical switching operations, including time management of the maintenance works. This provides clients with full information on all required works in advance for necessary planning and arrangements.
I2R provides a wide range of maintenance services. Below is the list of maintenance work provided by I2R:
Condition Monitoring
- HT Switchgear & Transformers Partial Discharge Test (TEV, Ultra-sound & HFCT)
- Oil-filled Transformer Dissolved Gas Analysis Test and Oil Quality Test
- Infra-red Thermography Scanning
- SF6 Gas Test and Analysis
- Pre-shutdown inspection (with report) to check for any signs of abnormality (such as transformer oil leaks, low oil levels, low pressure, temperature, and for HT Gas Insulated Switchgear, we will check SF6 gas levels). The inspection also includes checks for any faulty protection relays, power meters, etc.
Condition Monitoring and Pre-shutdown maintenance are crucial tasks as they provide early detection of abnormalities, allowing for effective rectification during the power shutdown maintenance. This prevents numerous unwanted power shutdowns, which can be very disruptive to business operations.
- Servicing and Testing HT Switchgear (Gas Insulated and Air Insulated types)
- Servicing and Testing of Transformers (Cast Resin Dry Type and Oil-filled Type)
- Servicing and Testing of Low Voltage Switchboards
I2R, as a firm of Professional Engineers and Licensed Electrical Workers, is qualified under the Electricity Act to carry out all types of electrical testing and commissioning works to ensure that electrical apparatus are fit for power energization and safe for use and operation. We have all the required testing equipment and qualified testing engineers to carry out all the necessary tests you need. If you are unsure of the type of electrical testing required, you can contact us for a free consultation (click here). Please refer to the following list for the types of testing and commissioning we offer:
Every piece of equipment has its useful lifespan, and this applies to all electrical apparatus. Electrical apparatus that continues to operate beyond its useful lifespan of 25 years is subjected to a high risk of component/material deterioration and failure. The impact of electrical apparatus failure can be severe, leading to significant property damage, electrical fires, and, in the worst case, electrocution. The impact on the building is not only limited to economic losses but also includes potential harm to the reputation and liabilities of the building owner. Therefore, buildings with electrical apparatus approaching the end of their useful lifespan should plan for replacement and renewal works.
Replacing electrical apparatus is not an easy task; it requires detailed studies and planning based on site and building operational constraints. Such work requires experienced Professional Engineers and Licensed Electrical Workers to develop the most cost-effective and operationally effective plan to avoid the double handling of work. I2R has years of experience in replacement works, as well as in-house expertise to assist you in making the task stress- and worry-free. Below is a list of our expertise in electrical apparatus replacement work:
Condition monitoring of electrical apparatus is a health check for the apparatus. The concept is very similar to a human routine medical check-up. Condition monitoring has recently been proven to be more effective and accurate due to improvements in technologies, such as sensors, etc. Although condition monitoring has its technical limitations, it is done without the need to shut down the electrical apparatus and remains effective in detecting any abnormalities that occur within the apparatus. The results provide early warnings of any abnormalities, allowing for effective planning of replacement or rectification work through planned power shutdowns.
I2R provides condition monitoring services, and the following are the types of condition monitoring tests we offer:
I2R, as a Professional Engineers and Licensed Electrical Workers’ firm, is qualified under the Electricity Act to be appointed by the licensee to apply for or renew an Electrical Installation License and/or Supply Installation License issued by the Energy Market Authority (EMA). Below is the work scope required for the application and renewal of an EMA license:
Under the Electricity Act, all electrical-related works in Singapore are only permitted to be carried out by a Licensed Electrical Worker (LEW). Engaging an experienced LEW can be challenging, as electrical work can be complex depending on the type of building operations. I2R has many years of experience in different types of premises (e.g., residential, commercial, industrial, data centers, hotels, power stations, photovoltaic systems, etc.), and we are proud to offer our expertise to fulfill the needs of all our clients. Below are the work scope requirements from a Project LEW perspective, which may be useful for reference:
The continuation of training for Professional Engineers, Licensed Electrical Workers, Engineers, Technicians, and Electricians is crucial to ensure that electrical personnel stay relevant in maintaining electrical safety at work, as well as remain updated with revised regulations, Singapore Standards, etc. Training serves as a form of knowledge and experience sharing to ensure a common interest in maintaining skilled personnel who remain relevant to their work, and ensuring that safety at work is not compromised. Training also provides guidance to young engineers, technicians, and electricians who are keen to pursue a career path as a Professional Engineer or Licensed Electrical Worker.
